What to pack

A vacation care day tends to run longer and more actively than a normal after school session, so it is worth checking the packing list rather than sending the usual school bag. Common requirements include:

• a hat and sun protection, since outdoor and excursion activities are common
• comfortable, closed shoes suitable for active play or an excursion venue
• a refillable water bottle and, depending on the provider, packed lunch and snacks

If your work schedule changes during the holidays

Holiday periods often disrupt normal routines even for parents who are not taking leave, since meetings, deadlines and on-call periods do not pause for the school calendar. If your hours are uncertain, ask the provider how last-minute changes to a booking are handled, some allow swapping a booked day for a different one within the same holiday period if you give enough notice, while others treat each booked day as fixed once confirmed.
